1 dead, 4 injured in 3-vehicle collision

Following a three-vehicle collision on the Mahaicony Public road, East Coast Demerara, at about 11:00hrs today, one woman is now dead while four others are injured.

The dead woman was identified as 61-year-old Esmee Rockliff of Lot 6 L Enterprise, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

Rockliff is also said to be a retired Deputy Regional Executive Officer of Region Five, Mahaica Berbice.

The woman was reportedly heading home from Berbice at the time of the accident.

The accident was confirmed by Traffic Chief, Dion Moore who stated that the collision occurred between three vehicles, two of which were heading east and the other west. At the time however, he was unable to confirm how many persons had died.

Inews understands that two mini-buses and one motor car were involved.

Rockliff was said to be traveling in one of the mini-buses, when, during the collision, she was hurled out of the vehicle and landed on the road way sustaining severe head injuries.

The dead woman leaves to mourn her five children among other relatives.

The other injured persons were rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital, where they are presently being treated.

The drivers of the two mini-buses were apprehended while the driver of the car is being treated at the hospital.
